Attention All SMOKETOWN Residents, Fresh Stop Market is coming along wonderfully. This week be looking for fresh corn from the farm. I hope for those who have purchased a share at the last market that you enjoyed the watermelon and green tomatoes.
As you know, earlier this year, the 2nd Street Kroger had closed their doors leaving the community to find an alternative (most inconveniently) way to shop for food. Thanks to New Roots Fresh Stop Market which is an organization that believes that simply having convenient access to and affordability to food is a basic human right.
New Roots is also a FOOD JUSTICE movement that is spreading the word of urban communities becoming food deserts and in hopes that with this movement it not only improves access and affordability but brings the community together.
They are always welcoming the community to step up and become leaders in the market. There are various opportunities for you to get involved. To learn move visit the website.
The markets are held bi-weekly every Tuesday at Coke Memorial UMC 428 E. Breckenridge St, from 4:30-6:30 pm. The next market will be on August 8, 2017. All orders are due each Friday (by 6pm) before the market.
If you are not a Smoketown resident then that's okay. Fresh Stop Markets are all around Metro Louisville. View website for closest location near you.
